Port Polska has selected the contractors that will carry out archaeological excavations for Railway Line No. 85, the high-speed rail (HSR) route between Warsaw and Łódź. Fieldwork is scheduled to begin at the turn of 2026 and 2027 and will be undertaken by Asinus Igor Maciszewski and a consortium comprising Antropolis Izabela Kadłucka and Archeo-Explores Wiesław Koszkul.

This is the largest contract awarded to date for archaeological investigations associated with the railway component of the Port Polska programme. Eight of the nine contractors invited to participate submitted bids. All had previously signed a framework agreement with Centralny Port Komunikacyjny in October 2024 to provide archaeological services for the programme’s railway investments.

The winning bids were:

The contract has been divided into two lots to allow work at individual archaeological sites to proceed simultaneously. Lot 1 covers 19 archaeological sites with a total investigation area of approximately 39.5 hectares and will be delivered by Asinus Igor Maciszewski. Lot 2 comprises 41 archaeological sites covering approximately 38 hectares and will be undertaken by the consortium led by Antropolis Izabela Kadłucka, together with Archeo-Explores Wiesław Koszkul.

The contractors will be responsible for carrying out full archaeological excavations, including site preparation, trial trenching, excavation works and the preparation of the required documentation. They will also obtain all necessary heritage permits before commencing fieldwork.

The archaeological investigations will be conducted in close cooperation with the Mazovian and Łódź Provincial Heritage Conservators. Their representatives will supervise the works to ensure full compliance with the provisions of the Polish Act on the Protection and Care of Historic Monuments.

Port Polska is a strategic investment programme delivered by Centralny Port Komunikacyjny, aimed at creating a modern transport system that seamlessly integrates air, rail and road transport.
