Location decision issued for the rail node east of Poland’s new airport
The Mazovian Voivode has issued a location decision for the rail junction on the eastern side of the airport. The decision has also been granted immediate enforceability, enabling Centralny Port Komunikacyjny, the company delivering the Port Polska investment programme, to apply for construction permits for the junction and associated infrastructure. It also defines the next section of land to be designated as the investment area.
The junction on the eastern side of the airport will comprise two components: a rail component and a road component.
The rail component will connect sections of three railway lines (Lines No. 5, 85 and 88), together with the necessary supporting infrastructure, linking the railway station at the new national airport with both existing and newly planned railway lines. The project will also require the construction of new road infrastructure, as well as the reconstruction and, in some cases, the demolition of existing roads.
The new roads will be designed to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow, provide access for railway maintenance, secure access to public roads from passenger facilities, yards and freight handling points, and maintain the continuity of the local road network.
The planned investment is located in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, within Grodzisk County, across the municipalities of Baranów and Grodzisk Mazowiecki. The area covered by the location decision for the Eastern Junction totals 212 hectares. Under the Voluntary Property Acquisition Programme, 85.2 hectares have already been acquired, representing nearly 40 per cent of the total area.
The rail junction on the eastern side of the airport will form an integral part of High-Speed Rail Line No. 85, which will connect the airport with Warsaw and Łódź. Design work for this line has received financial support from the European Union. The infrastructure currently being developed will, at every stage of its implementation, comply with the requirements applicable to dual-use infrastructure, enabling both civilian and military use.
Earlier, in January 2025, the Mazovian Voivode issued the location decision for the construction of the new national airport together with the transport infrastructure on its western side. That investment is also located in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, across the municipalities of Baranów, Teresin and Wiskitki. The area designated for the investment covers 2,585 hectares. Immediate enforceability was granted to that decision in December last year.
Port Polska is a strategic investment programme carried out by the Centralny Port Komunikacyjny, aimed at creating a modern national transportation system that efficiently integrates air, rail, and road transport. As part of the Port Polska Programme, a new state-of-the-art airport will be built between Warsaw and Łódź, along with a high-speed rail network. The new airport will be designed to serve 34 million passengers annually in its initial years of operation, with plans for flexible expansion in the long term according to market needs and growth forecasts.
