The Świnoujście City Council adopted a resolution in the context of the project to build a Deepwater Container Terminal. A Program Council will be established.

The decision was preceded by meetings of the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority with residents and councilors of the city of Świnoujście. Jarosław Siergiej, president of ZMPSiŚ SA, spoke on August 27 in Świnoujście during the meeting of the joint committees: Maritime Economy and Economy and Budget. He presented a summary of the actions we took at the Port after the extraordinary session of the City Council in early July. The president presented answers to the issues raised by residents, their concerns and fears. Concepts were presented for the construction of road and rail junctions, a new beach access in the vicinity of the future terminal, and proposals for the R10 bicycle route – Velo Baltiki, popular among cyclists, which starts in Świnoujście. We also touched on the need for water and environmental protection issues.

We are actively consulting and planning now to recreate habitats of unique seaside flora and fauna in new places. We want the valuable Baltic dune and forest habitats to be moved to favorable locations.

After the presentation, there was time for questions from the committee members, who discussed other topics, including: construction of new water intakes, they also expressed concern about the lack of readiness of the transport infrastructure as well as environmental degradation and the nuisance of the terminal infrastructure itself. President Sergei answered questions, presenting the Port’s position and the actions taken to solve the problems raised.

On August 29, during the regular session of the Świnoujście City Council, councilors adopted a resolution on the establishment of the Program Council for the construction of a deep-water container terminal.

The council will be created by a team of experts who will perform analyzes and assess the possible effects of building a terminal in the external port in Świnoujście. We support the councilors’ decision and declare our readiness to cooperate with experts who will analyze the topic of our investment.
