Intermodal in Świnoujście is taking its turn
Not so long ago, such a sight was an everyday occurrence – railway wagons on board ferries could cross the Baltic Sea on the route from Sweden to Świnoujście and back without any problems. Thanks to investments, Polish port return to such practices and even open new paths for them.
At the beginning of August, Port of Świnoujście received another transport of wagons from Ystad, Sweden, at the Ferry Terminal in Świnoujście. The container platform wagons arrived on board the Polonia ferry, and from the port they moved further to southern Poland, where they will be renovated. This is the second such transport in recent months.
The Ferry Terminal in Świnoujście has recently been expanded and modernized – it has been operating in its new form since autumn. It is thanks to this that today we can safely and effectively accept rail transport there again. Importantly, the ferry terminal in Świnoujście is the only one in Poland adapted to handle railway ferries – and further investments are on their way.
