New dock bay being constructed in Port of Gdynia
The construction of a dock bay in the Port of Gdynia is moving forward according to schedule. The pile driving works are carried out by using the second-largest pile-driving machine in Europe – the so-called pile driver.

The project regarding the construction of a dock bay and the relocation of a floating dock along with accompanying works is an element of a larger project for which the investor – the Port of Gdynia Authority S.A. obtained EU funding in 2018 within the Operational Programme for Infrastructure and Environment 2014-2020 (POIiŚ 2014-2020) in the amount of 273 million zloty.
The Deepening of the approach fairway and internal waters of the Port of Gdynia – Stages I and III and reconstruction of the quays in the Port of Gdynia – Stages II and III project, which includes the construction of a new bay, is one of the most important projects for the qualitative change of port infrastructure. Its implementation will create conditions for the calling of much larger container and bulk ships in Gdynia, with a maximum length of up to 400 metres, a width of up to 58 metres and a maximum draft of – 14.7 metres. The actual implementation of the entire project is planned for the fourth quarter of 2025.
One of the many elements of the project includes increasing the diameter of turntable No. 2 – from 385 to 480 metres. Full use of the obtained turntable parameters will be possible after changing the location of the floating dock of the PGZ Stocznia Wojenna (naval military shipyard in Gdynia), currently located at Pier II. The construction of a new dock bay in the corner of the Południe II and Zachodnie Quays on the premises of the PGZ Stocznia Wojenna and the relocation of the dock there will create conditions for rotation on the above-mentioned turntable for units up to 400 metres long (currently up to 366 metres). Before this happens, it will also be necessary to dismantle the head of Pier II over a length of approximately 25 metres.
The general contractor of the Construction of the dock bay and relocation of the floating dock along with the associated works project is the consortium of NDI S.A. and NDI SOPOT S.A., with which a contract worth over 82 million zloty gross was signed in July 2023. Under the contract, the consortium is also obliged to obtain an occupancy permit. The implementation of works under the project is advanced – among other things, pile-driving and reinforced concrete works are continued. In spring, the general contractor will start dredging works. This investment is being carried out using the most modern equipment – including the second-largest pile driver in Europe, which is used to drive steel pipes with a diameter of 1,014 millimetres and a length of 28 metres into the ground.
The planned completion date of the works is the first quarter of 2025.
