Go-Live of passify: First truck drivers use new app instead of trucker card
This week, Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) took an important step towards making truck handling at its Hamburg container terminals safer and more efficient. With the passify app, HHLA Next, innovation unit of HHLA, has developed a product that is gradually replacing the previous trucker card. HHLA has now started the transition to passify at Container Terminal Tollerort, meaning that the first truck drivers are now using the passify app exclusively for truck access. The system will be rolled out gradually.
Maren Baumgarten, responsible for the project at HHLA, says: “We have already been running the first successful tests with passify at our terminals in Hamburg since summer 2023. The first trucking companies have already been able to test the application and provide their feedback. The switch to passify that has begun at CTT will significantly increase security at our facilities in Hamburg. Thanks to passify, we are taking another important step towards the digitalisation of our terminal handling.”
One major advantage of the passify app is the security aspect: until now, truck drivers have used a physical plastic trucker card to access the terminals. With passify, drivers are clearly identified by authenticating themselves via the app. passify guarantees the necessary standards in terms of security and data protection and fulfils all the requirements of the globally valid ISPS code.
In addition, passify will be fully integrated into HHLA’s gate processes, contributing to the further digitalisation of terminal processes. The system will accompany truck drivers through the entire handling process. In the future, the app will offer drivers additional functionalities, such as a mobile self-service terminal, in a central application. It will provide drivers with all the information and documents they need to access the terminal centrally and in one place.
Marcel Wiegand, Co-Founder of passify, adds: “The introduction of passify at HHLA’s container terminals has been a great success. Together with the HHLA team as well as the drivers and trucking companies, we have been able to make rapid progress with the introduction over the past few months. We look forward to making truck handling at HHLA and other companies in the port easier, safer and more efficient in the future by using passify.”
Following the successful launch at CTT, passify will also be rolled out successively at HHLA’s container terminals Altenwerder and Burchardkai over the next months. Trucking companies will then no longer need the conventional trucker card. HHLA and the passify team are actively supporting the companies during the process. To this end, HHLA has created a comprehensive FAQ section on its website containing the key questions and answers about passify. Trucking companies can also find instructions for registering and verifying individual truck drivers.
