JadeWeserPort Wilhelmshaven, the German single deep-water harbour, has added one more international rail freight connection to its network. In July 2022, Rail Cargo Group launched a new container train from its terminal in the Czech city of Melnik to the German port. It is the second train service between JadeWeserPort and Czechia.

Starting from July 2022, Rail Cargo Group (RCG), a freight subsidiary of Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), has been running a container train between Terminal Melnik, close to Prague, and EUROGATE Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven (CTW) in JadeWeserPort, the German deep-water harbour. “In this way, we meet the needs of the Czech market for an alternative transport solution to Hamburg and Bremerhaven,” the Austrian company stated. The connection is available for the customers once per week; on Mondays from Melnik and on Tuesdays from Wilhelmshaven.

The Melnik – Wilhelmshaven train is dedicated to moving 20- and 40-foot ISO containers, including those loaded with dangerous goods. Its route runs via Usti nad Labem and Děčín in Czechia as well as Berlin, Maschen and Hude in Germany. The new connection can be easily combined with RCG’s existing network. In this regard, the Austrian operator can deliver containers from Melnik to other cities in Germany and from Wilhelmshaven to other terminals in Czechia and Slovakia.
