Spedcont, the Poland-based logistics specialist and a part of the Geodis Group, is planning to build a new intermodal terminal in the city of Łódź. It will be convenient for handling containers on several important transport routes including the Baltic-Adriatic corridor and the New Silk Road. The project will be put into reality in 2023.

In the third quarter of 2022, Spedcont, the Polish subsidiary of the Geodis Group, will commence a new investment project at the estimated minimum net value of around 75 million zloty (over 16 million euros). This amount will be allocated to the expansion of the existing company’s transhipment and storage capacities by building a new intermodal terminal next to the actual facility. Spedcont expects to complete the planned investment in 2023. “The new project plays a pivotal role in the development of the Łódź region since it will act as a catalyst for the local market and will create new jobs,” the Polish company noted.

More areas, more options

The Spedcont existing terminal in Łódź has an area of around 13 hectares and a storage capacity of 7,500 TEU. After expansion, its total area will be more than 18 hectares. To implement the project, the logistics company will purchase a plot of land, owned by the Łódź Special Economic Zone, with a total area of 5,5 hectares, where the new terminal will be constructed. By building a new facility in the city of Łódź, Spedcont intends to offer capacities for the customers since the freight traffic via the actual terminal is constantly growing. The company considers that the investment will be successful as Łódź is located at the intersection of several key routes such as the Baltic-Adriatic and the North Sea-Baltic transport corridors, and the New Silk Road.
