Important milestone for postal wagons in Ukraine
Almost four months have gone since the Ukrainian Railway returned the postal wagons on tracks. In a partnership with Ukrposhta, it delivered 2 million parcels. The geography of the rail freight service was extended from one route in April to five regular connections today.
The popularity of postal wagons is growing month by month. As a result, the Ukrainian Railway (Ukrzaliznytsia, UZ) and Ukrposhta, Ukraine’s national railway and postal operators, have almost doubled the number of delivered parcels from 477,000 in April to 741,000 in June. From early April to mid-July, the railway undertaking moved 2 million parcels.
According to UZ, there are 11 postal wagons, which are coupled to the regular passenger trains. They connect six major cities – Kyiv, the country’s capital, with Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Odesa, Kharkiv and Dnipro. The most popular routes are those from Kyiv to Lviv and Kharkiv.
“The joint project of Ukrposhta and Ukrzaliznytsia shows its effectiveness. In three months of cooperation, 2 million shipments have already reached their addressees. Moreover, this delivery channel also accelerated the arrival of humanitarian goods to Kharkiv, where the situation is now difficult, and the Dnipro, where many displaced people from the war zone are arriving. In addition, it was used for the relocation of enterprises from the eastern regions,” noted Ihor Smilianskyi, CEO of Ukrposhta.
