Kalmar Straddle Carriers to improve container performance at Port of Le Havre
Shortly after receiving the first batch of Kalmar Straddle Carriers from Cargotec, Terminaux de Normandie, a French major container terminal operator, placed a new order. The leading Finnish manufacturer of lifting equipment will supply 12 vehicles of the same type that will intensify handling operations at the Port of Le Havre.
In the fourth quarter of the current year, Kalmar, the Sweden-based subsidiary of Cargotec, will supply 12 new diesel-electric straddle carriers to the Port of Le Havre in northern France. The vehicles will handle containers at the Terminal Normandie MSC & Terminal Porte Océane, which are operated by Terminaux de Normandie and function as the key French gateway terminals for MSC and the 2M alliance (MSC and Maersk) to the European market.

“As France’s leading container terminal operator, we are committed to providing our customers with innovative and high-quality services. Kalmar’s solutions fit perfectly with our ambitions. We are confident that the new straddle carriers will deliver high performance and reliability combined with low operating and maintenance costs,” said Arnaud Roques, managing director at Terminaux de Normandie.
Second batch
For Terminaux de Normandie, the new order for the Kalmar Straddle Carriers is the second batch of the vehicles to be operated at the two terminals in Port of Le Havre. One of the facilities, Terminal Porte Océane, can process ultra-large container vessels as it is equipped with the largest in the Port of Le Havre STS cranes.
The ordered Kalmar Straddle Carriers will have a four-high stacking capacity and a lifting capacity of 50 tonnes. Powered by a highly efficient diesel-electric power unit, the machines feature excellent manoeuvrability, quiet operation and easy maintenance as well as a spacious, ergonomic cabin that improves productivity by providing operators with the best possible driving experience.
