Almost 14,000 TEU: new record-breaking container ship handled in Port of Gdynia

Port of Gdynia is continuing to set new records in handling large container ships. In less than three months after handling the container vessel with over 11,000 TEU, the Polish port processed the unit with a load capacity of around 14,000 TEU. It is the MSC Gaia ship that called up at the Baltic Container Terminal.

“MSC Gaia, the largest container vessel in the history of the Port of Gdynia, has arrived at the BCT – Baltic Container Terminal quay,” the operating company of the same name reported on Tuesday, 22 March. After two days of transhipment operations, the container ship departed to the Port of Klaipeda. On Friday, 25 March, she arrived at the Lithuanian harbour.

The MSC Gaia ship is operated by the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) under the flag of Panama. She was built in 2010. The vessel has the following dimensions: a length of 366.02 metres, a width of 51.20 metres, a deadweight of 162,867 tonnes and a load capacity of 13,798 TEU.
