Polish and Ukrainian logistics companies organise railway corridor for humanitarian aid
Several logistics companies from Poland and Ukraine have joined forces to arrange a railway corridor for delivering humanitarian aid to civilians in Ukraine. The supply chain, which was initiated by the Ukrainian Railway (UZ), includes two important hubs: Sławków in Poland and Lviv in Ukraine. As the railway corridor uses the Broad Gauge Metallurgy Line, the containers with humanitarian assistance can be easily moved through the border without an additional transhipment.
“Russia’s aggression has already caused a terrible humanitarian catastrophe – the killing of innocent people, the destruction of infrastructure and entire cities. Join to help Ukrainian people! There are certain ways you can help Ukraine as international businessmen, investors, and corporations,” noted the Ukrainian companies in a joint statement published on Tuesday, 1 March. To this end, the Ukrainian Railway (Ukrzaliznytsia, UZ) has teamed up with the Ukrainian business companies from the European Business Association (EBA) for developing a railway corridor between Poland and Ukraine. Several Polish companies also participate in the project.
Departure from Sławków
The Polish town of Sławków is the departure point for the planned trains with humanitarian aid. All the companies or private individuals can send the goods for civilians by trucks or trains by using the network of PCC Intermodal, the Polish intermodal operator, to the warehouse logistic provider in Sławków:
Trade & Trans Expert Czaicki i Czaicki Sp.J. ul. Dębowa Góra 29 41-260 Sławków +48 691 873 900
Afterwards, the goods will be loaded into containers for further delivery to Ukraine. Initially, the final destination will be Lviv but Ukrzaliznytsia also considers other points in Ukraine. On the Polish side, the containers with humanitarian aid will be hauled by PKP LHS, the Polish rail freight operator and rail infrastructure manager of the Broad Gauge Metallurgy Line between Sławków and Hrubieszów. After crossing the border, the locomotives of the Ukrainian Railway will be responsible for haulage.
The Ukrainian Railway (UZ) and the European Business Association (EBA) kindly ask shippers to sort their freight for faster uploading in Sławków and faster unloading in Lviv.
