TX Logistik, the German rail logistics company, is expanding its intermodal services in Sweden. Starting from late January 2022, it has launched a new combined transport connection for moving trucks between the Port of Trelleborg and Eskilstuna, the country’s important hinterland hub. The new service will run under the TX Logistik brand but on behalf of the Austrian transport company LKW Walter.

The block trains have been running on the Trelleborg-Eskilstuna route (via Frövi) four times a week in each direction. TX Logistik organised the first shipment on 28 January 2022. Its new intermodal service is dedicated to moving trucks between the two transport hubs in Sweden: Eskilstuna, which is around 100 kilometres west of Stockholm, and the Port of Trelleborg, the country’s most remarkable ferry harbour.

Despite the fact that TX Logistik is responsible for traction, terminal handling and customer service, the Trelleborg-Eskilstuna link was developed for LKW Walter, the Austrian specialist for combined transport. In Trelleborg, LKW WALTER uses the ferry connections to and from Rostock and Travemünde. By shifting transports from road to rail, both companies are taking part in a further reduction of CO2. The train will be able to carry up to 38 units, most of them will be semi-trailers. The transit time per journey will be around seven hours.

TX Logistik is developing rail freight solutions for other customers in Sweden. It moves food products 20 times a week between Bro (near Stockholm) and Malmö for the retail chain Coop. The rail logistics company also supplements the domestic network in Sweden with the national line between Trelleborg, Malmö and Eskilstuna. The connection currently operates seven round trips per week as an open train system.
