Schweizerzug, a railway subsidiary of Swissterminal, has launched a new connection between the Port of Antwerp and Ottmarsheim (France). Starting from January 2022, the connection has been offering new transport opportunities to the three-country point of France, Switzerland and Germany. The intermodal link will contribute to alleviating supply chain congestion in the Alsace region.

With three roundtrips running every week, the new intermodal service of Schweizerzug provides the fastest transit between Antwerp and the Alsace region. It allows moving up to 540 TEU per week. The trains depart from Ottmarsheim on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. In the Port of Antwerp, the departure takes place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays through the container terminals of DP World, MPET, PSA. Swissterminal offers customers favourable pick-up and delivery times, also offers maintenance, repair and reefer services. This new rail link helps Swissterminal take a huge step forward in its plan to transform Ottmarsheim into a rail hub for the entire three-country region.

Port of Antwerp & France

France is one of the most important hinterland markets for the Port of Antwerp. The Belgian harbour has a well-developed network of intermodal connections to this country, which are run by barges and container trains. Before launching the new rail freight service of Schweizerzug, Ottmarsheim and the Port of Antwerp were linked via the inland waterways. Meanwhile, Lyon is the most popular direction for the container trains running between the Belgian hub and France. Five different companies provide intermodal services to this French city.
