Extended capacity of DP World London Gateway
DP World London Gateway, the UK’s fastest-growing deep-sea container harbour, is continuing to develop its infrastructure. With completing the third phase of expansion at Berth 7, the port area has increased its terminal area from nine to 14 acres. The capacity of the berth has almost doubled from 4,000 to 7,400 TEU. Moreover, the project will result in boosting handling operations as the terminal has been functioning around the clock.
The expansion project was successfully implemented by Pentalver, a leading UK container logistics services provider and a subsidiary of Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W). “Our new 24-hour, expanded facility allows us to add over 40 per cent capacity to one of the UK’s critical mainline Port operations and enhance our crucial support to the UK logistics industry,” said Chris Lawrenson, G&W managing director of UK Terminal Services.
At Berth 7, the range of services including maintenance, repair and refrigeration was expanded. This has led to 24/7 operations with reliable access to the return and collection of both empty and full containers. “I am delighted that Pentalver has completed the Phase 3 expansion at Berth 7. At London Gateway, we have the space, infrastructure and vision to support customers as they grow. Our partnership approach, logistics expertise, digital solutions and intermodal connectivity, particularly rail, help us to solve logistical challenges and give our customers more control over their supply chains,” noted Ernst Schulze, DP World’s UK CEO.
