Railpool focuses on Vectron locomotives to intensify cross-border rail freight in Europe
Railpool, Europe’s leading rail vehicle leasing company, has ordered 100 Vectron multisystem locomotives from Siemens Mobility. The new vehicles will allow the company’s customers to boost cross-border rail freight operations in Europe.
At the turn of 2021, Railpool and Siemens Mobility signed a framework agreement for the delivery of 100 locomotives. The first call for 70 vehicles was placed at the signing of the contract. The multisystem version of Vectron locomotives allows the railway undertakings to cross the borders without changing vehicles due to the different systems of electrification. ” The various locomotive variants will be used on different European rail corridors (north-south and east-west) and can be operated in up to 18 countries,” Railpool stated.
Earlier, in August 2021, the German rail leasing company purchased 20 locomotives of the same type from Siemens Mobility. According to Railpool, the company’s focus on the Vectron vehicles is stimulated by the customer’s needs. “It’s becoming more and more important for our customers to be able to use their locomotives flexibly based on the needs in different European countries. With the purchase of additional Vectron locomotives with universal applicability, we are sending a positive and eco-friendly signal in a growing railway sector,” said Torsten Lehnert, CEO of Railpool.
