Akiem orders Vectron multisystem locomotives from Siemens
Akiem, a leading European provider of services to rail operators, will increase its fleet with multisystem locomotives. To this end, the French rolling stock specialist has placed a firm order for 20 Vectron locomotives from Siemens Mobility.
In August 2021, Siemens Mobility and Akiem concluded a framework agreement for supplying locomotives, ancillary equipment and services. Now, in late December, Akiem has confirmed its intention for acquiring new multisystem locomotives to reinforce its leadership in the European leasing market. The ordered Vectron vehicles have a maximum output of 6.4 megawatts and a maximum speed of 200 kilometres per hour. They are equipped with the required national train control system and the European Train Control System, ETCS.
“We are proud to build on a new partnership with Siemens Mobility and diversify our fleet portfolio. We continue to strengthen our ability to deliver the reliable, efficient, safe and cost-effective traction services that passengers and freight operators demand,” commented Fabien Rochefort, CEO of Akiem. The Vectron locomotives will boost Akiem’s activities in key corridors of Central and South-Eastern Europe, Scandinavia and Italy, and also provide customers with state-of-the-art locomotives.
