Wielton strengthens presence in Spain
Polish manufacturer of semi-trailers Wielton will step up in the markets of the Iberian Peninsula and northern Africa. This is a result of the company’s expansion policy. Among the latest developments in this regard is the acquisition of a major stake in Guillén Desarrollos Industriales, the Spain-based well-known manufacturer of semi-trailers and trailers. Wielton intends to completely take over the Spanish company by the end of 2026.
Guillén Desarrollos Industriales, Spain’s sixth-largest manufacturer of semi-trailers with a 125-year-long history, will become a part of the Wielton Group, which was established in Poland 25 years ago. The Polish company purchased 80 per cent of shares of the Spanish entity for 4.6 million euros. The remaining 20-per cent stake will be acquired by Wielton in 2026 by using the earn-out model, which suggests that the price will be based on the EBITDA profit generated in 2025.
As a multi-brand group, Wielton will continue to develop the Guillén product portfolio as well as it will promote its own products in the Spanish market. The latest acquisition is in line with Wielton expansion policy: it took over several manufacturers of semi-trailers in Italy (Viberti), France (Fruehauf), Germany (Langendorf) and the United Kingdom (Lawrence David) within the last six years.
Results of acquisition
By adding Guillén to its family, Wielton intends to achieve several crucial tasks. First, it will expand its presence in Spain and the nearby countries. “Spain is a large and interesting market that we have been watching for a long time and thoroughly analysed. By taking over the well-automated and robotic plant of Guillén with spare production capacity, we open up the possibility of rapid growth on the Spanish and Portuguese markets. We gain an additional production and assembly platform, located in the vicinity of important markets – southern France and northern Africa,” said Paweł Szataniak, chairman of the Wielton Group.
Second, the Polish manufacturer will intensify its cooperation with TIP Trailer Services, one of the world’s largest players in the truck rental and servicing market, which will be responsible for the sale of the Guillén products. Also, Wielton will increase the production volume of its Spanish subsidiary up to 1,600 vehicles in 2025 (the company sold around 630 units in 2021).
