GATX flat wagons to support modal shift in Europe
GATX Rail Europe, the leading Austria-based full-service lessor of rail wagons, has started its cooperation with Lineas, the largest private rail freight operator in Europe. It will deliver the newly built vehicles to the Belgian railway undertaking to support its growing demand for intermodal connections.
The big advantage of cooperation between GATX Rail Europe and Lineas is the mutual benefits. While the former has found an operator for its flat wagons, the latter will attract much more customers by launching new intermodal connections and shifting more freight volumes from road to rail.
“Lineas was pleased with the delivery of the new wagons to support a growing demand for intermodal trains and that GATX Rail Europe provided a very satisfactory and reliable service in railcar leasing,” said Tom Mespreuve, wagon fleet manager at Lineas, at the handover ceremony, which took place in mid-December in Antwerp.
Flat wagons are central to moving freight across Europe. Lineas is a key enabler of the modal shift, improving supply chains while decreasing their impact on mobility. “We are very enthusiastic about continuing our collaboration with one of our newest clients. Lineas is a highly valued customer and GATX Rail Europe is always happy to provide customized solutions and a high-level of service,” added Olivier Vasseur from GATX.
