CMA CGM develops e-commerce business
CMA CGM, the French shipping line, will boost its activities in the e-commerce sector. To this end, it intends to purchase the dedicated division of Ingram Micro, the U.S.-based distributor of information technology products and services. The acquisition will strengthen CEVA Logistics, the logistics provider of CMA CGM.
CMA CGM Group and Ingram Micro have signed a Share and Asset Purchase Agreement, which suggests the obtaining of Ingram Micro’s Commerce & Lifecycle Services activities (CLS) in the U.S. and European markets, by the CMA CGM Group. The transaction includes the acquisition of Shipwire, a cloud-based logistics technology platform, and Ingram Micro’s technology forward logistics businesses.
“CMA CGM Group is committed to investing in the technology, capabilities, and talent to rapidly become one of the world’s largest players in the global e-commerce space,” said Alain Monié, CEO of Ingram Micro. The CMA CGM Group intends to fund this acquisition from its own resources after approval by relevant authorities. The transaction is expected to close during the first half of 2022.
Accelerating CEVA Logistics
By purchasing Ingram Micro CLS activities, CMA CGM will reinforce its subsidiary, CEVA Logistics, which, in its turn, will be able to offer the customers more options in contract logistics services in Europe and North America. This will complement CEVA Logistics’, existing e-commerce business and accelerate its growth in key market segments, such as technology, retail and fashion. The CLS business has a strong base in contract logistics with excellent e-commerce capabilities including reverse logistics management, parcel visibility, and same-day delivery.
“The acquisition of Ingram Micro CLS is strategic for the CMA CGM Group. CEVA Logistics will accelerate its development and join the world’s Top 4 in contract logistics. Its position will be significantly strengthened in the U.S. and European markets, enhancing its ability to seize the opportunities offered by the boom of e-commerce. Committed to providing leading end-to-end supply chain solutions, the CMA CGM Group will continue its development, relying on two solid pillars, shipping and logistics,” added Rodolphe Saadé, chairman and CEO of the CMA CGM Group.
