DB Schenker launches new logistics hub in Italy
German logistics provider DB Schenker has put into operation a new distribution terminal in Verona, one of the company’s key hubs in Italy. The new facility will provide road freight connections with more than 20 destinations in Europe. It also allows the customers to enjoy more reliable and flexible services to store and move freight at the warehouse.
On Thursday, 21 October, DB Schenker’s division in Verona set a crucial milestone in its 25-year-long history. The new terminal with 60 gates and an area of over 40,000 square metres was launched in Interporto on that day. With more than 20 destinations, the new logistics hub will intensify road freight connections in Europe, namely from Italy to Germany, France and Austria.
Optimised cross-docking
“The facility was designed with great precision and much attention to detail in terms of both the warehouse and the offices,” noted Francesca Tommasini, manager of DB Schenker’s branch office in Verona. As a result, the new warehouse with an area of 7,500 square metres was made with a single span and without pillars. Among its key features is the optimised cross-docking activities for import and export operations. Moreover, the new facility was constructed in line with sustainability. It was equipped with solar panels, and the energy-saving lighting system that activates the light in spaces actually being used by employees.
