Two important intermodal hubs in France and Italy, Calais and Domodossola respectively, will be connected by combined transport. CargoBeamer as a major logistics provider in this area will offer this option to the customers from 4 October. The freight trains loaded with semi-trailers will run between Calais and Domodossola four times a week. After two months of operation, the German company is planning to increase the frequency up to six weekly connections.

Modal shift

The new combined transport service will become the fourth for CargoBeamer after the Kaldenkirchen – Domodossola, Duisburg – Poznań and Calais – Perpignan lines. It is dedicated to moving various types of semi-trailers, both cranable and non-cranable as well as containers, hazardous goods, P400, frigo and bulk trailers.

Due to CargoBeamer’s technology, semi-trailers are loaded on flat wagons automatically within 20 minutes. This is an efficient stimulus for the modal shift in terms of attracting more freight to rail. “Additionally, we will continue to extend our route and terminal network significantly in the coming years to execute the modal shift and transport semi-trailers environmentally friendly on CargoBeamer trains,” said Matthias Schadler, managing director of CargoBeamer.
