New freight for container trains from Russia to China
Sverdlovsk Railway, a regional division of Russian Railways Logistics, has expanded the range of goods transported in containers from Russia to China. This time, peat was containerised, the first batch of which was sent in early August. The second batch of this cargo will be sent to China in the coming days.
The first fast container train loaded with peat was sent to China from Shartash station in Yekaterinburg earlier this month. It consisted of 46 containers. To arrange the shipment, the Sverdlovsk Railway updated the infrastructure of the Shartash station: a special platform and a separate railway track for loading container trains were installed. Moreover, a specialised reach stacker was delivered to the station.
Earlier, the formation of accelerated container trains at this station was not carried out. The formation of the second train is currently being completed. In the future, it is planned to send up to four container trains per month.
Focus on containers
Sverdlovsk Railway is gradually expanding the list of stations for organising containerised cargo shipments, where there was no such opportunity before. This policy is stimulated by the increased demand from customers for container transport both within Russia and for export to China.
Containerisation allows goods to be delivered much faster and on schedule. Since the departure and arrival time of such trains are known in advance, the shippers can plan logistics and use rationally their resources. It should be noted that in January-July 2021 from the stations of the Sverdlovsk railway more than 1.2 thousand container trains were dispatched, they transported almost 2 million tonnes of freight.
