Dachser enlarges cross-docking terminal near Antwerp
German logistics provider Dachser is being carried out a new stage in expanding its operations in Belgium. It intends to add more capacity at its cross-docking terminal in the vicinity of Antwerp. This will allow the company to develop its groupage services in Western Europe.
As of today, Dachser’s cross-docking terminal in Willebroek, 20 kilometres southwards from Antwerp, has 68 loading docks and an area of 7,000 square metres. By the year’s end, it will be enlarged by 2,000 square metres and 19 docks, bringing the total area to 9,000 square metres with 87 loading docks. Moreover, on-site parking will also be expanded by 7,500 square meters.
“Due to its central location in the Dachser network, Belgium is an important link for goods traffic in Europe. With the steady growth of the branch, which is located close to the port of Antwerp, we continue to strengthen our network in Belgium and the Benelux region. In addition, we can offer customers a complete solution that combines road transport with air and sea freight to take the entire logistics process off the customer’s hands,” said Aat van der Meer, managing director of Dachser Benelux.
Dachser in Belgium
Dachser started its operations in the Belgian market in 1975 by establishing its first facility in Kuurne, close to the city of Kortrijk. In 1995, Dachser moved to Willebroek. After 15 years, the company moved its activities to a completely new dedicated cross-docking centre, which is located at the De Hulst industrial park, in the southeastern outskirts of Willebroek. “The growth of European groupage activities that prompted our move to these new premises in 2014 has continued and the time for the second construction phase has now arrived,” explained Frans van Bedaf, general manager of the Dachser branch in Willebroek.
