Logistics hub to be constructed in Port of Gothenburg
The Gothenburg Port Authority is planning to construct a new logistics hub. It is expected that the works will start by the year’s end and will be completed in four years. The storage facility will be linked to Sweden’s road and rail network.
The planned logistics hub with hall space of 155,000 square metres will appear at the Halvorsäng area, northwards from the existing port terminals. Its convenient location, close to the Hisingsleden bypass, is ideal for connecting the facility to Sweden’s major highways. Near the construction site, runs a branch line that will enable rail connections to the logistics hub that will be constructed at a parcel of 270,000 square metres. The project will be completed in 2025.
Joint venture
To embark on the project, the Gothenburg Port Authority will establish a joint venture with Castellum, the Swedish real estate investment company. Both partners will have equal shares. It will initially invest around 400-450 million kronor (around 39-44 million euros) in purchasing a 50 per cent interest in the land. Afterwards, the property company will allocate 550 million kronor (around 54 million euros) to the construction. Since the Gothenburg Port Authority is owned by the City of Gothenburg, the incorporation of the joint venture must be review by the authorities. In June the issue was approved by the City Executive Board, now it is a turn of the City Council.
