Schavemaker to construct new container depot in Poland
Dutch logistics provider Schavemaker intends to build a storage yard for empty shipping containers in Poland. The new facility will be located close to the company’s existing terminal in Kąty Wrocławskie, close to Wrocław. It is expected to be put into operation this autumn.
Schavemaker’s planned container depot will be constructed by BERGER BAU Polska, a well-known Polish contractor headquartered in Wrocław. It is committed to starting the construction works during June. In autumn, the storage yard will be open for the customers. The new facility will be placed near Schavemaker’s distribution terminal in Kąty Wrocławskie, namely in the immediate vicinity of the A4 motorway (at the exit for Kąty Wrocławskie), approximately 15 kilometres from the Wrocław-Południe motorway junction.
1,200 TEU containers of three types (20-, 40- and 45-foot units) could be stacked up to five floors high at the depot with an area of around 10,000 square metres. The storage yard will be equipped with a modern IT system connected to the main Schavemaker terminal in Kąty Wrocławskie.
Rail container terminal
Kąty Wrocławskie is a siginificant location for Schavemaker as the Dutch company already has two facilities here: distribution centre and rail container terminal. The latter facility was launched in September 2015 near the Kąty Wrocławskie station. It features storage capacity of 3,000 TEU containers and a paved outdoor area of 50,000 square metres. The terminal provides a wide network of intermodal connections to Europe (Moerdijk, Gdańsk, London, Hamburg) and Asia (Xi’an, Zhengzhou, Qindao, Chongqing, Chengdu).
