A new intermodal service between Azerbaijan and Turkey has started to run. The express container train delivers freight from Baku to Istanbul in six days.

The first half of April marked a new stage in the intensification of freight traffic between Azerbaijan and Turkey. The first container express “TURKUAZ” arrived in Baku from Istanbul last week. The train delivered 21 45-foot containers, loaded with 588 tonnes of animal feed, just in six days.

Two routes

The container express “TURKUAZ” will transport freight twice a week. The new service has two routes. Besides Istanbul, the express trains will also run to Mersin, a Turkish port on the Mediterranean Sea. The new intermodal service was organised by three companies: ADY Container from Azerbaijan, Pasifik Eurasia Logistics from Turkey and GR Logistics and Terminals from Georgia. The main part of the route of the new express service runs along the Baku – Tbilisi – Kars railway.
