Rail Cargo Group, a freight subsidiary of Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), has launched a new intermodal connection to link Vienna with Lodz. The new solution is a part of the TransFER network.

“We are expanding our network and launching an intermodal non-stop connection between Vienna and Lodz,” Rail Cargo Group (RCG) commented the start of its new intermodal link between Austria and Poland. The new train departed from the Vienna South Terminal (Terminal Wien Süd), one of the most important transport hubs in eastern Austria, on Wednesday, 14 April.

RCG will perform two shipments per week on the route: on Sundays and Wednesdays from Vienna, on Tuesdays and Fridays from Łodz. “The new service to Poland also facilitates connections to Europe’s key important economic hubs, such as Milan and Istanbul, to the southern ports, CIS states and even as far as China – all as part of our high-performance network,” added the Austrian rail freight company.

Polish subsidiary

Poland is an important market for Rail Cargo Group. The Austrian company has been presented in the European country for more than 20 years. Meanwhile, RCG added the Polish subsidiary to its holding only two years ago. In autumn 2019, RCG purchased Rail Time Polska, a small Polish rail freight operator with a headquarter in Warsaw. In January 2020, that Polish company was rebranded as Rail Cargo Carrier – Poland and became the rightful member of the Austrian rail freight holding.
