Maersk container train delivers home appliance from China to Poland
Maersk has launched a new container train on the New Silk Road. It connects China and Poland. The intermodal service is dedicated to the delivery of home appliances.
Maersk commenced a new container train upon request of Amica Group, the largest Polish manufacturer of home appliances. The most attractive feature of the rail freight link is its delivery time, 10 days, compared to 43 days by sea. “This dedicated train provides us with a solution that is fast, effective, based on a consistent schedule, transparent and less environmentally friendly than alternative solutions,” said Dawid Kujaczyński, purchasing & operations manager at Amica.
First shipment
The first shipment took place in late February and early March. On 27 February, the train with 45 high cube containers departed from Xi’an. It arrived in Małaszewicze, the largest Polish intermodal hub on the New Silk Road, 10 days later. The containers were loaded with parts needed to manufacture home appliances.
“Rail increases the flexibility of the supply chain for our customers by offering the competitive prices, on-time and widely used mode of transport. The first dedicated train for Amica provides customers not only an attractive transit time but also better supervision of the goods thanks to GPS-based tracking”, added Justyna Barycza, customer experience manager and national representative of A.P. Moller-Maersk in Poland.
